Landmark Appearance in Supreme Court
Harry Pretorius achieved the rare distinction of appearing unassisted before the Supreme Court of Appeal, exercising rights of appearance usually reserved for Senior Counsel. His work has actively shaped South African common law, most notably by securing a landmark High Court ruling that established prolonged pre-trial detention as “exceptional circumstances” for bail, a precedent he successfully achieved through the Pretoria High Court.
